Creating Mind Blowing Landing Pages

A landing page is made for two main purposes
- Attracting visitors
- Making visitors proceed further
Your goal is to set your visitor in a mood to do what you expect (buy, click a link, leave a comment…)
For each site we want around 5 landing pages, each page for each of our main keywords. (I will use a Blender website for example)
For each of these pages we want at least 5 variations or ‘long tail keywords’.

Getting these keywords into your page
We need to now get these keywords on the page but we have to be careful on how we do this. This is where SIZE matters.
Size meaning,
- size of text (headers, etc)
- number of words
- number of keywords
Most of this boils down to keyword density.
If there a 24 words on a page, and the keyword is mentioned 5 times
5/24*100% = 20.8%
Keyword density for this is 20.8%
If you use text with too small keyword density, Search Engines won’t pay much attention to you. And, if you overstuff pages with keywords, the Search Engine’s robot will come to your site, but won’t trust you, as the page will look unnatural.
A lot of SEO guys will recommend a density of 5-7%, but this is just a theory and it really does depend.
The key is to make your page look great yet natural.
Now alot of this is trail and error, a good way to find best practices is to research the competitors.
Page Title
The page title should be unique for your website, better still if you don’t have the same title on two pages.

Take a look at you keyword list and take the first major one and a couple of supplementary ones.
Try to keep them precise and remove as many of the extra words as possible. Use hyphens, commas or the pipe sign if needed.

NOTES
Home Page: [Page Keywords] Country/Area
Inner Pages: [Page Keywords]
Eg: <title>Juicers, Blenders, Composters, Saunas, Electric bicycles</title>
Note: Left hand Rule applies. Words placed towards the left carry more importance
Meta Keywords
Meta keywords aren’t super important but they can still help improve your rankings somewhat.
Humans will not see these words, they are just for the search engines. Heres how they will look
<meta name=”keywords” content=”blender,kitchen,raw food,etc”>
Meta Descriptions
This tag is used to give a brief description of your site. What you see below the links on Search Engines’ results pages is quite often the pages meta description.

The meta description should be made for:
- Search Engines Robots - make good use of keywords but not stuffed full
- Real People - They read these so they have to be compelling and make sense

NOTES
Try to avoid using the & symbol.
Writing Gripping Content
You have to write content for both search engines and people.
Landing page content must be a combination of both search-engine-friendly content and a call to action. Be up-to-the-point and make your invitation irresistible. Do not forget to make it look natural as well as fantastic.
Good human-friendly content converts into sales, keyword-rich but senseless web pages only make visitors hit the back button
The First Sentence
Just as people do, web crawlers believe that the first sentence is important. Most often it’s a promient headline put into an H1 tag. Make it keyword rich and full of sense, so that it looks great to both real people and Search Engines.
Include your major keyword into the H1 tag, use the other keywords in lower heading tags (H2, H3). Also try not to skip any heading tags, (using h1 and h3 but not h2 on a page is not optimal).
The First Paragraph’s
Use bold and italic fonts, search engines try to be as ‘human-like’ as possible. They also are attracted to whats in bold or italics just as real people do. Use your keywords in different combinations around twice in each of the first two paragraphs. Try to use your major keywords as early as possible but do not sacrifice good sales copy.
Make your pages link to each other
Internal links help search engines crawl your site and also give you a great opportunity to add keyword rich anchor links.
Links should be formatted properly with keywords that relate to the page they are linked to. A link like this is a tells search engines very little about the linked page
